Mitch Simmons SPECIAL COUNSEL
Profile
Mitch is Special Counsel and Accredited Immigration Specialist in Estrin Saul’s Adelaide office. He practices in all areas of immigration law, and has particular expertise in complex family visa issues, character and cancellation matters, and merits and judicial review applications. Mitch also acts in complex litigation matters concerning issues such as false imprisonment in immigration detention, adverse security assessments issued by ASIO, and other actions for damages against the Australian Government.
In 2018, Mitch was awarded the John Gibson AM Award for the Young Australian Migration
Lawyer of the Year by the Law Council of Australia. In 2020, Mitch was granted accreditation as an Accredited Specialist in Immigration Law, and is one of only a handful of accredited specialists practicing in South Australia. Mitch has been recognized as a leading immigration lawyer in South Australia by Doyles Guide since 2021, and by Best Lawyers since 2023. Mitch has been a member of the Migration Law Committee of the Law Council of Australia since 2018.
Mitch regularly provides expert evidence on the intersection between Immigration Law and a range of jurisdictions, including custody issues in the Family Court of Australia, child protection issues in the Youth Court of South Australia, and sentencing issues in the South Australian District Court.
Mitch delivers Continuing Professional Development presentations, training, and seminars on a range of complex migration law issues to lawyers, communities, and industry groups.
